Basic Instructions for Painting Terra Cotta Pots

Here are some basic instructions to start you on your fun!

1. Start with a clean, dry terra cotta (clay) flower pot.

2. Paint the pottery with acrylic (craft) paint. Let each coat dry completely before you start another.

3. After you have painted the pot, you must seal it inside and out (ALL surfaces). If you do not, you will have peeling, cracking and bubbling.     I use a waterbased lacquer. You can use a spray or paint it on by hand. Do several coats, inside and outside of the pot.  Again, let each coat of lacquer completely dry before you start another.

4.  Step back and look at your work of art!  If you followed all the directions using the correct products, you can now plant plants and flowers in your pot.
